Why

A `0` placed immediately before the field width enables zero-padding, a shorthand for "0=" (zero fill with sign-aware alignment). The value 42 is padded with leading zeros to width 5, producing "00042". This zero-aware mode also keeps any sign in front of the zeros, unlike a plain custom fill character.
