The `!r` conversion in an f-string forces the value through repr() before formatting, whereas the default (`!s`) uses str(). For a string, repr() adds the surrounding quotes, so `{s!r}` prints `'hi'` rather than the bare `hi` you would get without the conversion. This is handy whenever you want to show exactly how a value would look as a Python literal.
