Why

In numeric coercion, null converts to 0, so null + 1 is 1. But undefined converts to NaN, and any arithmetic involving NaN produces NaN, so undefined + 1 is NaN. This asymmetry is a common source of bugs when a variable is unexpectedly undefined rather than null.
